COG Skills

Thinking for a Change (T4C) is a cognitive-behavioral curriculum developed by the National Institute of Corrections that concentrates on changing criminal thinking in offenders. Thinking for a change combines cognitive restructuring therapy and cognitive skills theory to help individuals take control of their lives by taking control of their thinking. T4C stresses interpersonal communication skills development and confronts thought patterns that can lead to problematic behaviors.   Lessons on cognitive self-change provide participants with a thorough process of self-reflection concentrated on uncovering antisocial thoughts, feelings, attitudes, and beliefs.  Social skills lessons prepare participants to engage in prosocial interactions based on self-understanding and awareness of the impact of their actions may have on others.  This program can be delivered to a variety of offenders, both male and female.

This group is offered by Beverly Hawpe and Associates and utilizes the evidence based Living in Balance Curriculum. Social support group is a therapeutic group for women who generally have more than 75 days of sobriety, have demonstrated early relapse prevention skills knowledge and utilization, and who are beginning to stabilize in their recovery process. This group deals with more advanced materials such as sexual abuse, parenting, grief and loss, and addiction and loss. The group frequently addresses healthy relationships, boundaries, and increased accountability. The women in the group are supportive of one another in an appropriate manner and practice utilizing effective confrontation and conflict resolution skills in the therapeutic setting. Client strengths are emphasized and achievements are celebrated.
